 45th Reunion Bowling
Saturday, August 30, 2014

The Fort Shafter Bowling Center was the site of the '69 Tigers' second event of our 45th Reunion celebration.  A few of the golfers joined the bowlers and other Tigers who just came to watch ... and laugh.  Once the teams were formed, things really started "rolling."

Bobby Comeau giving out a few pointers to Virgy Avera and Arlene Kami while the peanut gallery of Veda Gyotoku Shimizu, Gary Tamanaha, Alice Asuncion Ome and Dennis Sumida listen in.  The food from the snack bar was onolicious!
Posing for the camera, MHS Team captained by Dean Masuno, Keith Mizokami, Elsie Lum and Marian Arakawa Crocco.  Elsie and her husband Satoshi joined us from sunny California.
Alan Fujii still had lots of energy after a round of golf to bowl with teammates Shirley Chang Han, Bobby Imoto, Johnsine Hashimoto and Arlene Kami.  Shirley joined us all the way from Molokai!
Dexter Suzuki cheered on his team - Myra Tamanaha, Chris Sumiye Imoto, Keith Aweau and Merle Yamada Woo.
Keith Kurahashi captained his team of Susie Ing Lau, Richard Ito and Virgy Avera (Virgy flew in from Maui for the weekend festivities).
Satoshi Iwahashi, Bobby Domingo, Raynard Kanemori, Naomi Masuno, and Elaine Nagato Kelly gave it their full measure.  Satoshi and Elsie Lum flew in from California and Raynard came all the way from Kirkland, Washington.

Earl Kawakami had so much fun at the golf event that he signed on last minute to join in on the bowling with the Tiger Team of Sandy Nishimoto, Gil Hashimoto, Jody Pang Domingo and Benjamin Woo.

"What?  I have to hit the least amount of pins?"

But it was soon evident that this was not what you call "Bowling."  Different things started to happen.

The two-game set involved Blackout Bowling with the second game even zanier.  Fun and laugh meter ... 10!  You had to be there!

Some very unique styles were used.
"Dean!  This is my best chicken form!" said teammate Marian Arakawa Crocco as her team chickened her on.
"Come on team, flap your wings and cluck like a chicken!"
There were a couple of true "seniors" who required special equipment.
Others found effective ways of aiming.

Of the group who attended this event, 28 displayed their fine bowling skills.  The rest of the group cheered them on and were truly entertained by their acrobatic skills.  Everyone enjoyed the event, had lots to eat/drink, and was able to spend some quality time catching up with old friends.

Tomorrow ... the 45th Reunion Banquet!!

45th Reunion Golf
Barbers Point Golf Course
August 30, 2014

About ten golfers, mostly '69 Tigers chose to brave the blue sky, clear, and sunny day at the Barbers Point Golf Course to kick off their 45th Reunion celebrations.  Some of these brave souls even had enough energy and body parts working to also participate in the Bowling event that followed immediately after.

Keith "KP" Perry '70, Earl Kawakami, Brian Yamada, Bobby Imoto, Dean Masuno, Bobby Comeau, Bobby Domingo, Alan Miyashita, and Alan Fujii.  Missing:  Susie Lau Ing (at the driving range)
Susie helps Alan and Alan line up their approach shots.
Earl shows the team how to spin and back up the ball on the green.
"Houston Control to Dean, you are cleared for takeoff."  Check out the beautiful weather!!  No extra charge, it came with our green fees.
Ho hum ... another tap in - birdie for Bobby.
"KP" lines up his eagle putt.

After 18 holes, how did they do?
Well, they all said is that they had lots of fun.  So let's leave it as that.

All of the players received a box of balls and a Tiger head cover (how fitting).
The winning team members won their choice of a putter or golf bag.

All prizes were donated by Gordon Tilley.

MHS Reunion Committee

Committee members:  Dan Ishii, Dexter Suzuki, Brian Yamada, Chris Sumiye Imoto, and Dean Masuno met at Fort Shafter Bowling Alley (One of the sites of our upcoming 45th reunion events) to discuss the strategies, dates, time, details, and also test the food.  Plans are coming along ... food was great.

Regarding the bowling, don't worry if you are not an avid bowler, the Tiger format is designed for EVERYONE to be able to participate.  In fact, if you've never bowled before, you will probably do better and have more fun than the "ringers."

A few "fun seeking" Tigers traveled to Las Vegas last November for "secret" bowling practice with '69 classmates from Kalani and Roosevelt.  The group also "practiced" socializing at nightly Hospitality Room events, a banquet, and other group activities.  They discovered that even without practice anyone can have a great and memorable time.

Mark your calendars, save the dates:

August 30th (Golf, Bowling, Aloha Reception)
August 31st (Banquet - Honolulu Country Club)

45th Reunion is coming ...

Okay, the MHS reunion committee has finally recovered from our 62th birthday bash in Las Vegas with our Roosevelt and Kalani 69 classmates and are now ready to get moving on our 45th Class Reunion.

Yes, believe it or not, it has been 45 years since we graduated high school.  This year also marks our 63rd birthday ... well at least for most of us.  You often hear the term, "how time flies."  Well for us 69 graduates, time has actually already flown and we are now on our slow descent into the airport of senior life.

No one knows how baby boomers are suppose to behave as senior citizens and since we never did follow what everyone else said we had to do, why start now?  Who says we can't hangout with our high school friends and have a great time doing whatever we want to do?  Our kids?  Ha!

Mark your calendars (because with our failing memory, we will forget) to join your fellow Tigers in August for the celebrations.  The Golf, Bowling, and Aloha Reception locations is being determined by the committee and will be posted ASAP.  The dates and times, however, will be the same.

We will be asking for help in locating and contacting classmates who have moved, gotten married, changed their name, etc.  A list of the MIA Tigers is forthcoming, but in the meantime, if you have any questions about the upcoming reunion or are willing to donate or contribute to the events, please contact Dexter or Chris.
