So sorry ... Tiger went to sleep. (Older Tigers nap regularly).  When Tiger woke up, he found these pictures under his left paw.  These were taken at our 45th reunion event back in August.

45th Reunion Banquet
Sunday, August 31, 2014
Honolulu Country Club

The McKinley High School Class of '69's 45th Reunion weekend activities culminated with their Banquet held at the Honolulu Country Club.  Over 90 classmates and guests gathered in the Tigers' Den to enjoy an evening filled with fun, food, and friends.

The line started early with anxious Classmates and their Guests checking in.

Showing off their name tags were Roosevelt's Robin Yafuso, Myra Tamanaha, Jessie Tamashiro Ito and Gary Tamanaha.

Here's Roosevelt's Harold Fujii with MHS '69ers Marylyn Morita Kaahihue, Helen Hirano Arakaki and her Husband Stan.

Posing for Jessie Tamashiro Ito were Susie Lau Ing and her sorority sister Kathy Inouye Anzai, Kalani '69.

Here is Group #1 of 2 posing for the Class Photo.

Group #2 has Ms. Mats in the center, front row.  She is the one looking younger than the rest!
Fearless leader, Reunion Committee Chair and MC Dexter Suzuki gave a moving invocation that was highlighted by a candlelight ceremony to bless the event, our classmates and our loved ones.
HCC's Prime Rib Buffet was a hit!  So delicious!

Classmate Freddy Ishihara along with his crew from Karaoke Madness entertained us with his ice breakers and karaoke challenges.

Here are the MHS Women in the duel of the sexes with their rendition of "Going to the Chapel."  The MHS Men followed the challenge with a stirring version of "My Girl."

Alice Asuncion Ome in a "Bride" pose with Gordon Tilley trying to get the votes of the judges.

We had a "Battle of the Crooners" and this Group really rocked out their song.  They were winners hands down with Yasu Yorita and his Tiger Puppet moves and  Marylyn Morita Kaaihue and Marian Arakawa Crocco showing off their dancing moves.

Ms. Mats tried to lead this Group fronted by Jackie Phillips, Richard Ito and Gordon Tilley but Yasu's Group was hard to follow.

Reunion Committee Members Dean Masuno and Dexter Suzuki tried to push their Group for the win - No cigar but they were good too.

Keith Kurahashi crooned along with Virgy Avera adding some color.

Hey Alice!  We didn't know that Earl Kawakami could sing.  Hana hou!

Dexter Onaga providing harmony with Alice while Satoshi Iwahashi and Helen Hirano Arakaki did backup.

Okay Bobby Comeau.  This just had to be your idea...

Thanks to the generosity of our classmates and business partners, terrific Door Prizes were awarded to attendees throughout the night.  Capping the evening were the Grand Prizes and Silent Auction awards.  Here Bobby Chinen shares with us the details of the $1,000 and $500 BCT Tours Vouchers that he donated to the Reunion as one of the Grand Prizes.

Bobby posing with the Lucky Winners of his BCT Tours - Marian Arakawa Crocco, $1000 Voucher and Stephen Miyasato winning the $500 Voucher.
Also donated as Grand Prizes were (2) $700 Vacations Hawaii Gift Certificates by Keith Kurahashi.  These Certificates were won by Roosevelt's Harold Fujii and Lisa Isono Yogi.
The Silent Auction run by Keith Kurahashi had great items like a 2-night stay at Trump Tower and Golf Packages at Ko'olina and Turtle Bay.  The Auction generated over $1400 for future '69 events...Stay tuned!

As the evening came to a close, following tradition, the Class was led by Songleader Marylyn Morita Kaahihue and Marian Arakawa Crocco to the lyrics of "Black & Gold."

With hands and hearts joined, the Class sang our Alma Mater...

Voices were soaring with pledges made to be back...

"Hail, McKinley, Hail!  All Hail, All Hail!"

 A Hui Ho
(Until we meet again)

 45th Reunion Bowling
Saturday, August 30, 2014

The Fort Shafter Bowling Center was the site of the '69 Tigers' second event of our 45th Reunion celebration.  A few of the golfers joined the bowlers and other Tigers who just came to watch ... and laugh.  Once the teams were formed, things really started "rolling."

Bobby Comeau giving out a few pointers to Virgy Avera and Arlene Kami while the peanut gallery of Veda Gyotoku Shimizu, Gary Tamanaha, Alice Asuncion Ome and Dennis Sumida listen in.  The food from the snack bar was onolicious!
Posing for the camera, MHS Team captained by Dean Masuno, Keith Mizokami, Elsie Lum and Marian Arakawa Crocco.  Elsie and her husband Satoshi joined us from sunny California.
Alan Fujii still had lots of energy after a round of golf to bowl with teammates Shirley Chang Han, Bobby Imoto, Johnsine Hashimoto and Arlene Kami.  Shirley joined us all the way from Molokai!
Dexter Suzuki cheered on his team - Myra Tamanaha, Chris Sumiye Imoto, Keith Aweau and Merle Yamada Woo.
Keith Kurahashi captained his team of Susie Ing Lau, Richard Ito and Virgy Avera (Virgy flew in from Maui for the weekend festivities).
Satoshi Iwahashi, Bobby Domingo, Raynard Kanemori, Naomi Masuno, and Elaine Nagato Kelly gave it their full measure.  Satoshi and Elsie Lum flew in from California and Raynard came all the way from Kirkland, Washington.

Earl Kawakami had so much fun at the golf event that he signed on last minute to join in on the bowling with the Tiger Team of Sandy Nishimoto, Gil Hashimoto, Jody Pang Domingo and Benjamin Woo.

"What?  I have to hit the least amount of pins?"

But it was soon evident that this was not what you call "Bowling."  Different things started to happen.

The two-game set involved Blackout Bowling with the second game even zanier.  Fun and laugh meter ... 10!  You had to be there!

Some very unique styles were used.
"Dean!  This is my best chicken form!" said teammate Marian Arakawa Crocco as her team chickened her on.
"Come on team, flap your wings and cluck like a chicken!"
There were a couple of true "seniors" who required special equipment.
Others found effective ways of aiming.

Of the group who attended this event, 28 displayed their fine bowling skills.  The rest of the group cheered them on and were truly entertained by their acrobatic skills.  Everyone enjoyed the event, had lots to eat/drink, and was able to spend some quality time catching up with old friends.

Tomorrow ... the 45th Reunion Banquet!!

45th Reunion Golf
Barbers Point Golf Course
August 30, 2014

About ten golfers, mostly '69 Tigers chose to brave the blue sky, clear, and sunny day at the Barbers Point Golf Course to kick off their 45th Reunion celebrations.  Some of these brave souls even had enough energy and body parts working to also participate in the Bowling event that followed immediately after.

Keith "KP" Perry '70, Earl Kawakami, Brian Yamada, Bobby Imoto, Dean Masuno, Bobby Comeau, Bobby Domingo, Alan Miyashita, and Alan Fujii.  Missing:  Susie Lau Ing (at the driving range)
Susie helps Alan and Alan line up their approach shots.
Earl shows the team how to spin and back up the ball on the green.
"Houston Control to Dean, you are cleared for takeoff."  Check out the beautiful weather!!  No extra charge, it came with our green fees.
Ho hum ... another tap in - birdie for Bobby.
"KP" lines up his eagle putt.

After 18 holes, how did they do?
Well, they all said is that they had lots of fun.  So let's leave it as that.

All of the players received a box of balls and a Tiger head cover (how fitting).
The winning team members won their choice of a putter or golf bag.

All prizes were donated by Gordon Tilley.
